Evenflo Car Seat Recall

The Consumer Product Safety Commision and Evenflo, Inc. have announced the recall of the Evenflo Embrace Infant Car Seat Carriers. The recall comes in the wake numerous reports of the handle on the car seat/carriers unexpectedly releasing, resulting in 160 injuries to children, including a skull fracture, concussions, cuts, scrapes and bruises.
The recalled units are described as follows:
The recalled car seat/carriers have model numbers beginning with 317, 320, 397, 398, 540, 548, 549, 550, 556, 597, 598 or 599. The model number and production date information can be found on a white label on the bottom of the carrier and on the top of the convenience base. Models beginning with "5" are units sold with the travel system (compatible stroller). "Evenflo" is on the carrying handle and car seat base. Embraceâ„¢ infant car seat/carriers made on or after April 8, 2006 are not included in this recall.
The problem happens when the seat is being used as a carrier. The carrier handle unexpectedly releases, and the seat rotates forward, allowing the child to slip out of the seat and fall to the gound.
The real challenge in these cases is getting the information out to owners, Unfortunately, many of us fail to fill out warranty registration cars and cannot be directly reached by the manufactuer. Another problem is that car seats get passed on to a different family who will not be a the warranty registration list.
There is no more troubling kind of product defect than one found in an infant car seat. That the child may have a court remedy for a defective and unreasonably dangerous product is little solace, particularly for a child who suffers a brain injury. Let's get the word out about this recall.
