Pharmaceutical manufacturer Purdue Pharma has announced that it has settled over 1,000 OxyContin cases related to its controversial painkiller OxyContin.

The suits claimed damages from OxyContin addiction or overdose. While claiming that it had resolved nearly every case in its favor, Purdue spokesman Timothy Bannon explained Purdue's decision to settle over 90 percent of all pending cases in 10 different states:

"We have reached the point that it makes economic sense to resolve these cases under the terms we've been able to realize because of our past success in this litigation."
