A stunt pilot died after he crashed during a Dayton, Ohio air show on Saturday, July 28. This occurred only a day after another pilot was killed in an accident in an air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

A pilot named Jim LeRoy died on the way to the hospital after his S2S Bulldog biplane crashed on the runway of the Dayton International Airport. The plane had been performing loop-the-loops to entertain air show visitors. When the plane tried to land it came down at an angle and slammed into the runway. The plane then skidded about 300 yards down the runway and burst into flames. Rescue workers had to cut LeRoy out of the aircraft.

In Wisconsin on Friday, July 27, two World War II era planes collided as they were trying to land. One of the pilots, Gerald S. Beck, was killed during the accident and the other pilot suffered minor injuries after the planes clipped wings on the landing. The two P-51 Mustangs ran into each other after performing at the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual AirVenture show.

On Monday, another pilot died while trying to break a speed record en route to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Hans Georg Schmid's plane crashed into an apartment building and playground in Switzerland. Schmid was trying to fly over 4,970 miles in a C1-D plane in 30 hours.
